How to Apply for Passport

We need your passport information by March 16 (and applications are currently taking up to 18 weeks to process). To be on the safe side, please submit your passport application before September 30, 2021.

You need a Passport BOOK (not a “passport card”)

Once received, sign the passport and make four copies of the picture/info page and signature. Keep one copy at home.
The student carries one copy with them during the tour.
Give one copy to Mike Norman and send one copy to Image Tours.

Passport applications are accepted by the East Lansing Post Office at: 1140 Abbott Road, East Lansing MI 48823.   Phone: 517-351-1024

Before you go, consult the following online for forms and instructions:  https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/apply-renew-passport/how-to-apply.html

Quick Reference of What to Bring:

  • Complete  Passport Application DS-11 (available online) but do not sign until in the presence of a passport agent.
  • Submit Proof of Citizenship (Example: certified birth certificate) can not be damaged/altered.
  • Provide Proof of Identity (Example: drivers license or social security card and school photo id) you will be required to present the original document.
  • Photocopy of ID – you must also bring a one-sided copy of the front and back of ID.
  • Provide one Passport Photo. One color photo is required and must comply with the regulations governing passport photos. (Note: For a $15 fee, the passport photo can be obtained at East Lansing Post Office when submitting your application.)
  • Passport Fees: There are three fees that need to be paid separately. The Passport application fee must be by check or money order made payable to “Department of State” (block letters and black ink) in the amount of: $100 for applicants 16 and older / $80 for applicants 15 or under. The additional $35.00 processing fee may be paid by separate check, credit card or cash. The $15 passport photo fee may be paid by separate check, credit card or cash. It is suggested that you be prepared with three blank checks and a credit card (as well as exact change in cash for the $35 processing fee and $15 photo fee).

Additional Notes for Applicants 17 and under:

  • If you are younger than 16, all parents/legal guardians must be present at time of application.
  • If you are 16 or 17, it is recommended that at least one parent/legal guardian accompany you.
  • If you will be turning 16 within six months of departure, it is still important to apply at least eight months prior to departure (even though your passport will only be valid for five years). Further, even with expedited service, it is too risky to wait until a few months prior to departure.

Please submit your passport application before September 30, 2021.
